The architecture of the "Pinakothek der Moderne" is already worth a visit. From outside the building, which was conceived by Stephan Braunfels, looks a bit sparse, yet the inside unfolds width and elegance with its light flooded rotundas.

Since its opening in 2002 visitors are flooding the city's youngest "Pinakothek". It hosts four independent museums on a surface of 12.000 sqm. combining different areas of the arts in a unique constellation.

The collection "Modern Art" shows mainly classically modern works by Beckmann, Kandinsky, Marc, Macke, Klee and Picasso. On top you will find work complexes of the subsequent generation including Baselitz, Beuys, Judd or Warhol giving an overview over the differing art approaches of the 20. century. 

The Graphic State Collection is one of the leading places for the graphic arts  worldwide. In the exhibition area on the ground floor it shows changing exhibitions with paper works from the own stocks as well as items on loan.

The "Neue Sammlung" was the very first design museum, if the term had existed already back then. Having originated from the founding of the "Deutsche Werkbund" in 1907 in Munich and having been established as a state museum since 1925, today it's one of the leading international museums for applied modern arts - for industrial design it is outstanding worldwide.

The "Pinakothek der Moderne" finally provided the museum of architecture with a fix location. The exhibtions address the expert public on the one hand, but also all other visitors in order to foster the interest in and understanding of architecture.

Together with the surrounding museums of the "Kunstareal München" the "Pinakothek der Moderne" is a unique ensemble for art lovers.
