On September 18, 2009 the Schack-Galerie will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the building in Prinzregentenstrasse. With regard to that renovation works are being made already. The re-opening is planned for May 2008.

The Schack-Galerie in Prinzregentenstraße has its origins in the art collection of count Adolf Friedrich von Schack and is part of "Bayerische Staatsgemäldesammlung" today. Von Schack was a patron that supported Munich artists. The building, in which the gallery is situated, was initially constructed by Max Littmann in 1907 for the Prussian legation in the kingdom of Bavaria.

The collection comprises mainly works of romanticism, by Arnold Böcklin, Moritz von Schwind, Franz von Lenbach, Carl Spitzweg and other works of German landscape- and historic painters.
