The Münchner Kammerspiele, founded in 1911 and since 1926 based in an art nouveau theatre on Maximilianstrasse by Richard Riemerschmid, is one of the most important German theatres. Directors such as Otto Falckenberg, Hans Schweikart, August Everding and Dieter Dorn have profoundly marked the artistic profile of this institution.
Since the season 2001/2002 Frank Baumbauer is the director of the Münchner Kammerspiele. With a newly composed ensemble Frank Baumbauer and his team of dramatic advisors are on the search for a socialpolitical confrontation with the presence, classic texts as well as in the works of a new generation of authors.
The invitations to the Berlin theatre meeting, the presence at numerous important stages and festivals in Germany and abroad as guests and the award of "theatre of the year 2005" give proof of the high artistic quality of this stage.
