Friedensengel watches over the most sophisticated access from Munich's east towards the city. The view keeps being fascinating, the neo-classically designed Prinzregententerasse follows the Korenhalle in Athens and is the worthy foundation of the 38m high, gilded monument, which was built to honor the 25 years of peace after the war between the Germans and the French.
The largest green space of the east are the Ostpark and the Landschaftspark in Riem which was designed in 2005 for the Bundesgartenschau (Federal Garden Show). Both complexes are great for any kind of leisure acitivities. At Ostpark you will find a beergarden and Michaelibad (outdoor and indoor bath and sauna landscape) as well as Munich's only speed skating track. In winter it's a heavenly experience to lap under floodlight and snowfall. The former BUGA area comes up up with a lake and when the trees willl have grown this complex will reach a similar popularity as Westpark.
Between Mittlerer Ring and Rosenheimer Straße people are lured by the park in Ramersdorf and the park along Wilramstraße. Huge green spaces call for picknicks, well-kept trails for jogging and children's playgrounds are a popular meet-up for mothers and fathers and their offspring.
In southern Neuperlach an artist has installed a tiny ensemble in the lagoon of Perlachpark. An over-dimensional watering can and a champagne glass decorate the water surface, where ducks cavort. A football area and seats make the green space near Neubiberg complete.
Trudering forest is Munich's largest connected woodland. While talking a walk along the former gravel pit you can discover some rare animal. Common toads and alpine newts have settled here in the natural pond.
The entrance with its Greco-Roman columns and the domed structure of the funeral parlor are quite impressive. We are talking about Ostfriedhof in Giesing at St.-Martins-Platz. The cemetery of 30 ha continous the good impression ofthe outside. Numerous prominents have found their last home, e.g. Klaus Löwitsch, Barbara Valentin (former confidante of Freddie Mercury, the deceased singer of Queen), Rex Gildo and last but not least, Rudolph Mooshammer.
Even more prominent citizens have found their last home at the Kleine Friedhof Bogenhausen – Erich Kästner, Liesl Karstadt, Oskar Maria Graf, Walter Sedlmayr, Rainer Werner Fassbinder, der ewige Stenz Helmut Fischer and Ernst Hürlimann are buried here, in the shadow of St.-Georgs-Kirche, whose foundation dates back to the 9th century and which is said to be one of Munich's most appealing rococo churches.
