Thinking of Harlaching brings up images of mansions with park properties, idyllicly located between Hochleite and Geiselgasteig. Once planned as a garden town the neighborhood is one of the best in Munich today.
If you leave behind Giesinger Höhe and drive outbound, you will look for prestigious objects in vain. New buildings of the postwar period and publicutility housing around Wettersteinplatz as well as the training grounds of FC Bayern and 1860 München mark the new part of Harlaching. Only then you will findforerunners of the former garden town, namely cute private homes – partly built in the style of the 1930s.
St. - Anna church on Harlachinger Berg was the centre of the former village. A rococo gem with a life of its own. At least, that's what nightly strollers claim who repeatedly report a strange blue light. According to a legend a nobleman in loverom Thalkirchen lured a young girl to his country house. When he had enough of her she jumped into the Isar river. The nobleman regretted and donated the little church as a penance. Regarding the light, the case is as follows: The soul of the suicide couldn't find peace and rushes around the church as a tender blue light ever since.
And here begins one of Munich's nicest and most expensive residential areas, Menterschwaige. Between Isarhochufer and Grünwalderstraße wechseln sich old mansions with gardens of the size of a football pitch alternate with fancy new buildings, whose luxury can only be anticipated.
There are many reasons to repair to Harlaching. Let's say for a date. King Ludwig I. himself hurried to Menterschwaige in urgent matters of the heart. As Lola Montez was not tolerated in the city anymore she fled into a small house next the restaurant which has become a cutely renovated event location for parties today.

Tierpark Most people move to this neighborhood for more profane reasons. They arelured by Perlacher Forst and the ample Isar floodplains with Flaucher and(zoo).
Since a tramway makes its way from the city centre to Grünwald since 1910, many come here for extended walks and bicycle trips on weekends.
And cosy beergardens like Menterschwaige and Harlachinger Einkehr with an amazingly old tree population invite to a longer rest.
Did you know that Harlaching is Munich's football stronghold? The city's most traditional football stadium is located here: the Sechzger stadium as well as training grounds and offices of FC Bayern (Säbener Straße 51-53) and of TSV 1860. When the blue 60er fought like lions against the red Bayern, the public was boiling and Munich was divided into blue and red. When the tense airreleased into frenetic celebrations you could hear this up to Harlachinger Einkehr. In the meantime it has become a little more quiet. The ravages of time have impacted the stadium which was built in 1911, and just like in Neu-Harlaching traditionalists fight modernizers.
