The Club and the Christmas market, Albrecht Dürer and the mighty Emeperor's castle, Norisring and well-conserved and restored old town – attribute of a city which over the centuries has played an important role in Germany. Franconia's biggest city, precisely Middle Franconia, has its special charm that wants to be discovered. An extended stroll makes you go back into a forgotten time at some corners - due to the architecture reaching back into the medieval age.
From Frederics Serviced Apartments Nürnberg is a bit more than one hour away taking the ICE, Germany's fast train. The central station is right in the city centre and from there all of the sights are easily reached on foot. Right across the station starts the historic city tour at Königstor. Passing Königstraße your way will lead you via Klara church to Lorenz church, which was rebuilt according to the medieval example after its destruction during World War II.
Going down to the Pegnitz river which is bridged by the Museumsbrücke, you continue to one of the famous squares of Nürnberg. The Hauptmarkt with the Frauenkirche is the stage of the world-famous Christkindlmarkt. When the stands are opened during the Advent season and the Christmas smells fill the air, you will see the glowing eyes of a child and feel reminded of your childhood. Back then when Christmas was still a feast to look forward to over weeks.
From Hauptmarkt you pass the Albrecht-Dürer-Haus, which is worth a visit, in direction to Kaiserburg. In 1998 house opened with a new concept presenting life and work of Albrecht Dürer. The multivision "Albertus Durer Noricus" and the vivid painting studio introduce into the work of Dürer; Agnes leads though the house and shows a Renaissance artist household.
The Kaiserburg was the place of most diets and court day in the medieval age. All of the emperors of the Saint Roman Empire from 1050 to 1571 stayed here. The state complex is divided into three parts and can be viewed extensively. The Tiefe Brunnen is particularly impressive with its water level in 47 meters, having served as the only water supply in times of occupation.
Your way back should lead you through Weißgerbergasse, in which 20 historic houses survived the war undamaged. The street with its narrow objects and the framework helps one imagine what medieval old town streets must have looked like. The Henkerssteg across the Pegnitz river leads to the former dwelling of the executioner, who had to live separate from the citizens since he was said to be dishonest. In 1954 the catwalk was reconstructed.
If you have some spare time, check out the Germanic Museum or the Museum of Traffic. The Germanic Museum is situated in the old town in Kartäusergasse, the one of Traffic, or DB Museum, in Lessingstraße not far from the central station.
