Inquisitive and unknowing visitors to Munich will often find that the Englischer Garten is described as a "green lung", an "oasis of peace", "sweeping greenery" in the words of various city guides. Other reports describe it as a "tourist attraction", an "overfilled beer garden" or even "annoying nudist park".
Once – exactly 15 years ago – the then mayor Georg Kronawitter described the Olympiapark as the "most beautiful stage in a thriving Munich". Nothing has changed since then!
In Munich’s Hellabrunn Zoo, it is quite possible that king penguins scrimmage amongst visitors throughout the winter months. The inhabitants of the Arctic are allowed to waddle through the zoo once a day.
The Botanic Garden seduces into exotic realms, tropic fields or dry deserts. It is instructive and unique with its abundance of colours and blooms. In 1812 Ludwig von Sckell had designed the Old Botanic Garden.
