Markus Wasmeier and Markus H. Rosenmüller not only share the same first name. One was born in Schliersee and one of Germany's few ski aces, the other one was born in Tegernsee, but takes pride in living in Hausham (therefore the initial H.) near Schliersee and makes a living as a director of Bavarian movies. Both are tightly connected to their home, the former ski racer with his farming and and wintersports museum, the other with his regional films, like „Wer früher stirbt, ist länger tot“ and the bobsled movie „Schwere Jungs“.

While the headstrong dialect movies are shown in cinemas Kinos or on DVD, the old Bavarian village can be visited from April 1 - November 2 Wednesdays through Sundays and on holidays from 09.00 - 17.00. While conserving precious cultural assets the museum displays vividly the rural life Leben of the early 18.th century in all its aspects. And in contrast to other outdoor museums nearly all buildings are maintained after its complete reconstruction, thus filled with life and work.

A hiking trail of 7 km leads around Schliersee which should be explored from the place with the same name. It will take you about 2 hours. Due to the great  water quality both Schliersee (785m) and Spitzingsee (1085m) are perfect places for a bath. But be aware: diving into the lakes may provoke sharp screams depending on the water temperature.

From Both lakes numerous mountain and hiking tours lead to the surrounding tops. Also the mountain bikers get their money's worth in this lovely ambiance. Many tours, from amateur delights to demanding ascents, are at hand and are described in other parts of frederics guide munich.

A special culinary delight in exposed location is found with "Wirtshaus im See" on the island Wörth. It's opened from April into late fall – reservation recommended and a boat trip mandatory. From Schliersee it's only a few kilometers up to Spitzingsee where the street can be blocked in winters. Yet not due to masses of snow, but the massive rush to the ski area and the overcrowded parking. Wild and romantically embedded Spitzingsee is probably one of Bavaria's prettiest lakes. The place of the same name Die blends in beautifully along the lake into the hilly landscape.

Even footsore visitors of the two lakes are taken care of. The lifts of the Taubenstein Kabinenbahn, the modernized Stümpfling Sesselbahn and the Suttenbahn make the discovery of the area around Spitzingsee quite easy. At Schliersee the Schliersbergalm on top of the lake with a hotel is best reached by a mountain railway, the 50 years old Schliersbergbahn. On 1061 m you will adore the amazing panorama over Schliersee. And you don't have to take the car to get to both lakes since railway connections from Munich are an ecological option.
