For art lovers Kochel goes as a synonym for Franz Marc, the great ambassador
of the early avantgarde of the 20th century. On Juni 22, 2008 the museum of the same name will reopen after 2 years of renovation.
Betwenn Murnau and Kochelsee you find another museum – the outdoor museum Glentleiten with its historic gardens and renovated farms Bauernhöfen, mills and alp buildings.
Further above lies the Kreut-Alm with a great view and regional as well as vegetarian cuisine. Not far from here a tightrope walk leads to famous Herzogstand.
A hike around the lake stretches over 14 km. The nicest part is the „Felsenweg“ between Raut and Walchensee power plant. The latter was put into operation in 1924 and up to date it is one of the largest of its kind in Germany.
Other splashing pleasures can be met at the Kochel outdoor bath "trimini", which is located right at the lake. Culinary delights of Bohemian and German kind are found at Gasthof Rabenkopf. Optionally Jägerwirt 3km out of town serves simple and yet original food.
