Berchtesgaden, Königssee and Jenner – inseparably connected and beautifully embedded in the Berchtesgaden National Park. Singers have sung about the threatening climbs of the Watzmann mountain. We also want get up high, but not into threatening heights. Here you find diversity and a cosy winter sports area for families.
Around 34 km of pistes don't set a record, but the Berchtesgadener Land is great for beginners and at the Jenner even experts might have their troubles facing the descent of 5,6km. So everyone gets fed here and also apart from skiing the eastern corner of the Bavarian Alps offer a real winter wonderland.
Georg Hackl, world and Olympic champion, started his career in Schönau at Königssee as a luger and for whom is keen on adrenaline may take a seat as a co-driver in a bob or race sled and rush down the ice canal audaciously. On 75 kilometers of cross-country ski runs fans of the thin skis will find their delight as well as winter hikers and nordic walkers on the 145 km of cleared paths. Kids are kept happy in the three ski kindergardens which are located at Hochschwarzeck, at Gutshof Obersalzberg and at Roßfeld.
On the Obersalzberg the Intercontinental Hotel opened in 2005 offering a large wellness area and fine cuisine with a mediterranean touch as well as classy wines. Traditional Bavarian cuisine with dishes like a crusty leg, venison and roast pork are served in "Goldener Bär" in Berchtesgaden, in the "Brennerbräu" in Bischofswiesen and in the "Waldhauser Bräu" in Schönau. The latter gained reputation in the TV-series „Tierarzt Dr. Engel“ when actors would go for a beer there.
Back to the winter sports activities: Götschen, Jenner, Roßfeld, Hochschwarzeck and the Gutshof Obersalzberg represent 5 possible ways of making your way down via ski or snowboard. Lifts are partly run at night and who has had this experience of flood light skiing won't want to miss out on that any more.
The earlier mentioned descent from the "Jenner" is also feasible auch in winters of less snow, thanks to snow machines. For those not wanting to use their skis there is a special service: the Parataxi with a personal chauffeur for the beautiful ride from the top down the valley.
And once you have made it there, après-ski awaits you in the Jenner-Kaser. A few meters away the small Seealm offers some schnaps and for whom is not done by then will find clubs in Berchtesgaden or Schönau.
