Hintertux with its terrific glacier panorama is always a challenge for hikers and skiers. After a long drive through Ziller and Tuxer Tal you will see Olperer (3476 m) and Gefrorene Wandspitze (3286 m) covered by the eternal ice.
A glance on the map leaves you a bit helpless at first: where to start having to choose from these diverse opportunities? Somehow you want to ski it all and enjoy the amazing view on all stations. Which is actually possible: a designated glacier round trip that doesn't have to be done in one day. It leads from Penken via Rastkogel, Eggalm to Hintertux − using ski pass. Don't underestimate the heights. The higher you get the thinner the air and the more condition needed. The ski area is ideal for disabled sportsmen since it is accessible from all sides.
Also tour aficionados will get their money's worth in Hintertux. One of the nicest tours leads onto the Hohe Riffler in spring. The first part of the path to Tuxer-Fernerhaus is mastered by glacier bus, a gondola on two ropes. The diverse ascent goes below the „Gefrorenen Wand“. A short but tough ascent is done with a crampon, until it gets less steep on the way to the top. After 2 ½ hours you have reached 3231 m feeling so close to heaven that you think you can touch the giants. Then you look forward to the thrilling downhill which leads via Spannaglhaus back into the official piste.
Stubaital owes its reputation of being Austria's largest year round ski area (110km) to four glaciers. Modern cable cars get you up 3200 meters where you can enjoy easy and medium-heavy pistes for ski- and snowboard pleasures.
The Glacier-Funpark at Eisjochferner is for sure the highlight for younger sports. In Banked Cross with steep face curves, wave track, different jumps as well as fun boxes everybody will be happy. Also newcomers are welcome. Three ski schools take care of snowboarders, carvers and the little ones.
The ultimate kick is promised at the Eisjochferner race track. Do as the world cup pros do and speed up to a 100km/h. On top, at Daunferner you can have your speed taken while going schuss. If your thrill is heights, try the ice climbing tower at Gamsgarten. A bizarre, ice-made tower of 20m height will make some fingers freeze.
Take a time-out from all the action in the well-managed mountain restaurants. Jochdohle is floating above the glacier in 3150, only being fixed at a rock. It offers a phantastic panorama view over the mountain scenery. After a good rest you jump into the "Wilde Grub’n" − an amazing tour into the valley.
Down there you will reflect the eventful day enjoying the après-ski-parties with live-music until the early hours. Well-prepared pistes, a ski funpark and a great nightlife make Stubaital a tip für winter fans.
