Ski-cirkus Saalbach-Hinterglemm and Leogang

Close to Zell am See the Glemm Valley offers a whole lot of action! In the winter sports towns of Saalbach and Hinterglemm party people can do! If you like it a bit more quiet, but still not boring, Leogang will be the right place. During the day the 200 km of pistes are connected with the Skischaukel for all guests.

The arena of the grand ski-circus stays open until after Easter and is nearly always booked. The large facilities and the many lifts and gondolas guarantee little delay. Being an early bird is well worth it though, getting up in convenient heights of Bernkogel (1740m) and Schattberg West (2096m).

Hochalm near Hinterglemm is spoilt with sun and also a treat for not so skilled skiers. If you are an expert check out the valley descent no.14 from Zwölferkogel, but make sure you grind your ski edges beforehand. The black piste is highly demanding and quite stiff due to the lack of sunshine.

From Schattberg Ost the longest descent, an "alpine delight", leads 7 km down to Vorderglemm. From there you make your way up to Asitz, the landmark mountain of Leogang, which provides great sunshine on the hills close to the top.

The area's absolute highlight for winter sportsmen however is the complete cirumnavigation of Glemmtal with its beginning and end at Asitz top station. The single stops are Wildenkarkogel, Kohlmaiskopf, Bernkogel, Hochalmspitze, Spieleckkogel and on the other side of the valley Zwölferkogel and Schattberg Ost and West.

If you prefer chasing ski bunnies and feel most at ease in the après-ski-world you will catch up quickly at Goaßstall in Hinterglemm. In Saalbach Bauers Skialm and Hinterhagalm are the most popular places. Every Tuesday at 2 pm the Saalbach village square hosts one of the best open-air après-ski-parties of the Alps. The Alte Schmiede at Asitz is fun as well, when the Dutch, Swedes, Germans and locals party hard and sing along the popular songs.

Right in the centre at Leogang Kirchenwirt, one of the region's oldest taverns, you will feel spoilt. And for who likes it more solid Heurigenstube in Hinterglemm will be the place to be with its spare-ribs. Very cosy and first of all very sociable is a Tartars' hat dinner: a cone-shaped framework, similar to the Tartars' hat, is heatened by electricity or elsewise, the small cut meat roasted at the jags and then treated with diverse sauces like a raclette. This special dish is offered in the Hotel Zur Dorfschmiede in Hinterglemm.
